I Blogged Myself

Why do you always come here? I guess we'll never know. It's like a kind of torture, To read this blog, y'know.

Welcome to the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational blog since Kermit left just a little bit of the swamp in his pants.

Shh! I'm Sleeping!

Reasons why this blog has gone relatively quiet again:

1. I'm applying for two jobs today -- fingers crossed!

2. I'm preparing this week's Big Blogger post for my other blog, TV Is My Life (which will probably be up tomorrow, Thursday, because I need to report on Big Brother's surprise mid-week eviction tonight).

3. There's some 'stuff' I have to take care of in my real life.

4. The above point is intentionally vague, but the 'stuff' it's referring to is quite time-consuming (although not worrying or 'a big drama', so there's no need to be concerned or anything), so it deserves two spots on this list.

5. I'm trying to plan Wifey's baby shower (which is just two weekends away and not everyone has RSVPed).

6. [There is no number six.]

7. Wifey and I are off to Sydney this weekend. More on that when I return.

8 When we come home from Sydney, my Dad and brother will be accompanying us to help me paint the rest of the house throughout next week (you may recall that my father-in-law helped me paint a few of the rooms a month or so ago). Family labour is both cheap and free.

9. I'm also trying to finalise plans (and questions, obviously) for a Trivia Night I'm hosting next month.

10. This is not a planned hiatus, but it's very likely that you may not hear from me on either blog for up to two weeks. If this is the case, never fear: I will return.

11. Some posts (such as the Big Brother and Big Blogger ones on my TV blog) may be back-dated so they appear to have been posted on certain days. This is just to give the illusion that I had all the time in the world and was on top of the latest Big Brother developments as they unfolded, and so the Big Blogger storyline can continue to be told "in real time".

I hope that's okay with everyone. :) I may not even be able to check for (and approve) comments for a little while, but I'll pop in whenever I can.

In the meantime, stay well, stay funky, stay fresh, and just stay. I look forward to catching up on everyone's blogs after everything here dies down a little.

Cheers!

BEVIS!

did you tape neighbours tonight? ie friday night? john taped whatever was on channel nine

CHANNEL NINE

i called his sis-in-law and got a verbal over the phone, which could never, ever, measure up to one of your fill-in posts.

[prays that bevis and wifey went to sydney before 6.30 today, which means they would have taped neighbours.]

Tammiodo, hehe, thank you. Much appreciated. :)

MelbourneGirl, I will make sure Wifey is out of the house during all painting sessions (and while the fumes are still present). Hopefully with three strapping young men (well, two strapping young men and one old guy) painting full-pelt, we'll get throught the three rooms fairly quickly. Tammiodo's been away for a bit (about a week), but if you mean longer than that, she's probably just been ignoring you (note her lack of response to you here - how rude!!). As for Neighbours, it sounds like John might be in trouble for taping Channel Nine! But you know you can rely on me! Yes, we taped it (we left the house at 6pm), but of course this means I won't be home to watch the tape until sometime Monday. I'll leave an additional comment here for you, breaking down the plot of the day. Check back sometime Monday afternoon/evening. Also, I have an upcoming Neighbours post coming on TV Is My Life which focuses on Gail and covers off on the ongoing Connor drama (make sure you don't miss this coming Thursday's episode for more Connor revelations/teases), and I hope to have that post up on the TV blog this week. In short: Aren't I just your hero? <insert smiley-face here> Cheers!

you are my hero, always have been B-man.

tammiodo, she wouldn't ignore me. you are just trying to stir things up a la iago.

i'm onto you.

[stares suspiciously]

also, very pleased to hear you can help me out with neighbours "incident". i am trying to be reasonable about john's muck-ups with taping. i know it can happen, but still...

lastly, hope you had a great weekend.

oh, that was second last. this is last.

would you mind awfully going back to my blog, and re-commenting on the sleepwear thing. i don't feel you answered properly. but if you don't want to, which i suspect you don't, being a very private little green amphibian, then just ignore me. or tell me to GO TO HELL. i won't mind.

actually, i would.

John Surname, I don't know why Ms Brett left her sixth point off that delightfully charming article you posted about (possibly, as you suggested, in an attempt to make it look like she'd listed more points than she really had), but I was quoting Monty Python. As I am prone to do on occasion.

MelbourneGirl, I have just left a more extensively-detailed comment on your blog, but I'm sure you'd know that by now. Iago was always my favourite Shakespearean character. I played him once (and did a damn fine job of it, too, I don't mind saying!), so ... yes. Guilty as charged. :) I would never tell you to GO TO HELL, though. Maybe just to Bayswater (which is close enough). My weekend was amazing, and I'll be writing a special post on it soon (but with half my family down to help me paint this week, I don't know when it'll appear). So many crazy things happened this weekend that I kept thinking (and saying to Wifey) I'd need to blog about, I couldn't believe it! More on that to come.

The Neighbours recap will follow this comment shortly.

I realised as I watched Friday's episode on tape today that I hadn't seen Thursday's episode yet either! Wifey wasn't home in time and we like to watch it together, so I taped it and momentarily forgot that it was also waiting to be viewed.

But I didn't have the time this arvo to watch both, because my Dad and brother will be arriving from Sydney soon and I still have to do the dishes before they get here. Also, MelbourneGirl's relying on me to fill her in on the show's details before tonight's episode ... and if I watched both at once, I might muddle up the content of the two episodes in my mind and tell you stuff from Thursday's ep and/or leave some stuff off from Friday's ep.

I'm just that much of a hero! Anyway, to soldier on (and in no particular order):

Paul promotes Lyn to Manager of Special Projects (or something like that), offering her double her current salary (and the existing conditions she already enjoys in regards to working around Oscar, etc). She's so delighted, she asks if she can kiss him (but doesn't mean it literally). She hugs him, and we see him look a little odd. Maybe you had to have seen Thursday's episode to understand his facial expression, or maybe it will be revealed tonight.

Anyway, the new job entails Lyn spearheading the Baby Belt and other such projects, as well as scouting for new projects. Sounds like a breeze of a job. Typical overpaid management style! The easiest, least-time-requiring jobs get paid WAY TOO MUCH!! Ahem, sorry. I am over the jerks in management at my old job, I promise.

Later, Paul has a contract ready for Lyn to sign and she remarks at how quickly it was drawn up. He says he thought she'd like her new salary to kick in ASAP. She asks why he picked her, and he says he thought she was ready for the challenge. She is happy and delighted at all this, and asks if he's okay with everything, such as the recent dramas and Gail leaving (d'oh!). He says he's fine and does she want to sign the contract or not? She says she should get a lawyer to look over it, and he says, "Sure, if you feel you need to." After a second's hesitation, she says "You trusted me, I'm going to trust you," and signs it. Stupid woman! We didn't even need to see Paul's evil smile to know she's gonna be ripped off in some way for doing that. NEVER TRUST PAUL ROBINSON. Didn't see watch the show in the 80s?

(Also, this part of the plot included a little line that amused me. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but the writers had Paul say, by way of explaining why Lyn was right for the job, that she had "the perfect blend" of something and something else. It's not important what the two things were, but "the perfect blend" is both a line from the chirpy theme song, and the name of an official-unofficial website based on the show.)

Max and Boyd seem to be best buddies again, and Max finds out about the webcam thing Janae has set up in the House of Trouser. He suggests that it's a bit off, but they assure him it's only in the tasteful areas of the house. I'm confused by this (and by most of what follows in this storyline), because I distinctly remember seeing footage of Boyd flexing his muscles and kissing his biceps in some hidden camera footage from the bathroom. Maybe they made her take that camera out? I don't know. Anyway, the point is that later Max logs on and sees Boyd picking Janae's pimples in a new bathroom camera. It's the one Toadie was setting up last week. Why couldn't they tell what he was doing? Maybe they weren't there. I know he was doing it when Ned and Sister Mary Catherine / Carmella the Mob-Based Nun were in the house, so maybe they were the only ones to witness him installing it. Janae finds the camera and plans to set it up in the toilet so they can catch Toadie "reading his Wonder Woman comics on the dunny". Yeah, suuure ...

Max advises them to leave it alone because Toadie will only get them back again - and worse - because Toadie invented the word 'obsession'. I'm pretty sure it was Calvin Klein, but what would I know.

I'm unsure if Janae and Boyd have decided to let this drop or not. I seem to recall this subplot ending with Janae having an alternative suggestion (but not telling us what it is just yet), although this was only the comical plotline, so it didn't matter too much and I must admit I was zoning out a bit due to their terribly inaccurate references to the blogging community. (They removed the cameras, for example, and Boyd said "Oh well, we made enough money to cover our rent for the next three months". Who makes that much money from .001 cent blog advertisements??! If you're out there, let me know how you do it! I'm unemployed!)

Oh no, that's right, this plot ends with them kissing. Janae says that without the blog she doesn't know what she'll do for a hobby, and Boyd says he has an idea, if you know what I mean.

Presumably this is the last we'll hear of those webcams and Janae's blog. Clearly it was only there to serve its purpose in catching Robert Robinson inside the house the other week anyway. Unless Toadie has more hysterical hijinks lined up that relate to an additional camera left somewhere in the house.

Now to the main story of the episode. Rachel is moving out of Susan's house because Katya has been found. Oh, and apparently she's been moved to a psych ward - was that shown in Thursday's ep? (It was only referred to in passing here.) Susan is trying to stop Rachel but she's being a spoilt teenage girl who really needs a slap. Sorry, but she does. Stingray and Zeke are trying to get Rachel to change her mind (when Zeke tells Rachel about Katya, she TWICE fobs it off and returns to her own stupid self-involved issues instead - see what I mean about her needing a slap?), but she won't listen to them. Lyn tells Rachel that she won't allow the teen to stay with her and the Timmins family anymore, so Rachel goes and whinges about it to Stingray, Boyd and Janae. Ignoring Boyd's advice that Toadie won't like it, Janae offers Rachel their "really small spare room" that she has to share with the water heater (not seen but apparently it's only the cupboard), which Rachel then inexplicably gushes over being "perfect!" They make up the story that Rachel is just "visiting a lot" whenever Toadie's home so he won't know she's living in their cupboard. Foolproof plan.

Susan and Karl are continuing an argument/discussion that obviously ended Thursday's episode about some secret Karl knows concerning Stinger. Through two separate attempts to coax it out of him, and despite him repeatedly reminding her of his Hypocratic Oath (and how he already broke it once for Alex and was almost "disbarred"* later by Katya for doing so), Susan is pretty selfish in her goal to find out the secret. Not really appropriate for someone who spent so many years as a doctor's wife, but anyway.

* Is "disbarred" the right term for a doctor? I know it is for a lawyer. You know what I mean, anyway.

Susan uses her powers of interrogation (gained from many years as a high school teacher) to work out for herself that Stingray is the father of Sky's baby. Despite Karl not saying anything, and in fact only repeatedly saying "I'm not saying anything more" (as if he'd already said something, which he hadn't!), Susan is able to correctly deduce the truth and heads off to tell Stingray and Rachel. Karl follows to stop her.

Susan finds Stingray in the street and is about to tell him when Stingray says he's trying to convince Rachel to move home to Susan's. Susan falters with what she's about to say and doesn't say it. Karl arrives and takes her inside where he yells at her for wrecking everyone's lives. Susan says she didn't tell Stingray anything, and Karl calms down and says she did the right thing. Susan asks if she really did, because Rachel's headed for a major heartbreaking realisation soon and Susan did nothing to stop it.

Lyn comes over after Karl's gone and gushes to Susan about her new job. Susan is clearly bothered by the Rachel thing, but Lyn doesn't seem to care; she's more interested in earning massive amounts of money for doing bugger all. I hope Paul DOES rip her off. Ahem, sorry again. Lyn then tells Susan that she needs to take charge with Rachel and be more forceful if Rachel's ever going to have any respect for Susan again.

Later, Rachel is packed and leaving the house when Susan tells her to put her things back in her room. Rachel challenges her. After Susan tells Rachel firmly that she should stop pretending Susan doesn't exist, they have a mini-argument about Susan treating Alex that way, which quickly turns into a joint heartfelt reminiscence of Alex. Just when it looks like they're having a breakthrough, Rachel walks out of the house anyway. After another heart-to-heart with Zeke where the little gimp tells Susan that he knows she'll do whatever she can - just like she promised Alex she would - to keep the family together, or some such emotionally-blackmailing and plot-driving statement like that, Susan picks up a pen and paper and begins to write a letter. We hear her in voiceover saying, "Dear Stingray, I know you care as much for Rachel as I do, which is why I hope you will one day understand why I have to tell you this ..."

The show ends with Susan dropping the sealed letter (simply addressed: "Stingray") into the Scully/Timmins' letterbox.

"Next week on Neighbours, it's a week of secrets and betrayals!" Sky gets told by a palm reader that her future involves 'poison' for her and her baby, Dyaln tells her that "our baby will be fine", and Izzy prepares to move out of Paul's house (and perhaps the show?) for good.

Incidentally, Izzy still has another month or two on the show, so I don't think this is how she'll leave.

---------

I hope that was enough information. :)

The Bevis, I just started a new job today and there is a guy here who talks exactly like that big blue eagle guy in the muppets. Could you provide some information on points about the eagle guy that I could use for teasing the work guy?

At Monday, July 31, 2006 5:57:00 pm, Blogger BEVIS said...

Certainly; I live to please.

Sam the American Eagle was the 'voice of reason' on The Muppet Show, always talking about the inappropriateness of certain 'acts' that appeared on the show, and claiming everything was "unAmerican". I don't know if you can use that word in your teasing of the guy at work, but that's probably the thing Sam is best-known for saying.

He was just generally disapproving of everything the others did, and would often 'tut' at people, roll his eyes, put his hand/wing to his forehead in shame and disgust, and walk away.

He's a tough one to provide good 'tease-worthy' fodder on for you, but he was named after the 'Uncle Sam Wants You' posters and so on. He represented all that was 'good' and 'proper' in America (which is probably why we never see him anymore - I think he died long ago, yuk-yuk).

bevis. thank you so much for that run-down. it was FAR more detailed than the couple of minutes on the phone with my future sis-in-law who was only half watching.

so the important things you have filled in are:

lyn signing the contract with paul, and trusting him

rachel moving into the cupboard

the webcam business, which is ridiculous.

do you know that max ran over katya while in a hurry to meet steph, and backing his car out, while he was on his mobile phone? i'm sure you do, but in your recap you say something like katya's been found and is in a psych hosp. i don't know if you've caught up on thurs' ep but she was run over, susan and toadie were at the hospital. katya was ok but very very weird with toadie. pulling her hand away from him, not looking at him. admittedly they were having a tiff when she was run over, but there seems to be more. i think it's along the lines of she just can't trust any man, ever again.

and what do you think about the storylines? at the moment i think they are rubbish. the only good one is the dylan/sky/stingray/susan/karl thing. i want dyl and sky to get back together. they have such chemistry. i have a little crush on greasy-hair boy, i must admit. i hate it when he does his angry acting; i want to see him doing some love acting. it wasn't convincing with elle cause... he doesn't love her. he loves sky.

did you see karl grabbing the letter from the timminses and running through the back yard. over the fence, we were told by janelle.

and how about janelle? each episode i remark to the family in a loud, superior tone of voice "janelle is a shocker. what a bad mother. she has absolutely no moral fibre."

(then i have to explain what moral fibre means.)

we also were expecting izzy to make a quick stage-left departure because i'd read she was out in july. but that must have meant she has finished filming by july end. so, i reckon there will be a dramatic exit for her.

i LOVE neighbours.

thanks again for the recap.

MelbourneGirl, thank you for your comments! I received them both together, because I'm only able to get online for a few minutes at a time, and recently it's been every second or third day. I decided to post both comments because I think you're lovely. xx

Yes, I knew about Max running over Katya (but thank you). However, unless last Thursday's episode involved the sudden deterioration of Katya's mental state, Friday's episode had an inexplicably-absent off-screen worsening of her condition. We'll have to see. Wifey and I still haven't seen last Thursday's episode, nor have we seen any episodes since (with the exception of me watching last Friday's episode so I could review it for you here). Things have just been far too hectic for us to watch any TV. Everything's on tape waiting for us to catch up, though. The only TV we've seen in the last week is all the Big Brother stuff, because we had to make time for that, since we knew the result would be all over the news, in the papers and on the net - and it'd be spoilt for us if we didn't watch it first. As it was, though, we only saw it all late on Tuesday night (Friday Night Live, Sunday's double eviction, Monday's finale and Tuesday's Rove BB special - all at once!). Everything else (24, Lost, Neighbours, Smallville and Battlestar Galactica) is waiting in a massive pile of VHS tapes that will only continue to grow as time goes on. We're extremely busy!

I think it's very funny that you have "a little crush on greasy-hair boy" - that's hilarious! :)

No, I haven't seen Karl grabbing the letter and running off with it. I don't know if you're kidding or not (because we haven't seen anything after Susan dropped it in the Scully/Timmins letterbox), but that sounds very interesting.

I think I mentioned somewhere (but perhaps only in a post I'm still working on in draft format - my head's in a bit of a spin so I can't remember) that Izzy will appear on screen until next month. She leaves Ramsay Street for good in September or October. I read it somewhere (probably TV Week), so whatever storyline sees her exit, I hope it's a good one.

Wifey and I are very well, thank you. But we are nearly going crazy with a lot of things happening at once. You know how it is. I look forward to returning to the blogosphere so I can update everyone on everything that's been happening (because it's quite a lot!), but even though I ache to blog, I simply haven't got the time. Speak to you soon. Cheers.

Adam, how very kind of you. I'm actually holding out until my blog counter hits 30,000 before I return. Only kidding. I have an awful lot to blog about, though, so please stay with me and hopefully you'll agree that my first post back will have been worth the wait. Tickles, BEVIS.
